I played around in prot again today and...yeah, the Vengeance mechanic as it currently sits needs to go. It decays in combat, it suffers when you avoid a hit, when you stun a mob, or when the mob decides to cast a spell (or heaven forbid, is a straight-out caster type).

I understand the desire for vengeance to decay and to have it based around damage taken, but it's problematic. We seem extremely underpowered when Vengeance isn't stacked, we have to wait too long for it to stack, and we lose it way too easily, in a nutshell.

Can you share any of the ideas you're bouncing around for this?

For my part, I'd love to have the 30 second grace period brought back; it's just not stacking fast enough for 5-mans to be anything other than "Gogogogogo!" mode or else a 5-10 second wait at the start of every new pull for the dps.

I'd also suggest giving all 4 tanks some move for threat that's completely independent of AP, and just gives high threat without worrying about Vengeance being up. I'd love if it was an aoe move, but at the least we need something for single focus targets.

There should be some sliding scale figuring in too, for low damage quest mobs or nonelites, so that at extremely low levels of damage it stacks faster, while it stacks "slower" (or normally) against heavy hitters IMO.

Finally, there needs to be some logic similar to the new rage rules where a dodge, parry, etc is counted toward it as if it had hit.

Think of Vengeance like the way Tricks of the Trade works on live. It isn't the silver bullet that is supposed to solve all your threat problems. It's there to make sure that other classes don't outscale you as you keep piling on Stamina and they keep piling on damage.

Your normal threat rotation should be sufficient to keep aggro in most situations. Vengeance falling off periodically shouldn't be a big deal. Offtanks without Vengeance shouldn't be a big deal.

We want you so still care, insofar as tanks ever care, about the damage you're doing. Vengeance is a cushion, not the solution to threat management.
